Tax, tested and legal for another year so been taking the Riot out for a spin when the weather is good. I'll be spending some time over the next few weeks updating all the Post SVA mods sections with the items that are half finished. Thank you to those who have sent emails over the last few months and good luck with your own Riot builds I hope my website will be of use to you. |
Back home!! I've updated the Post SVA section with all the work I did last year before I went back to work. Some of it is complete, some is still a work in progress. I reckon it'll take me about 4 weeks to complete it and then I need an MOT before I can tax it. Hopefully with a better summer (maybe) I'll get out in it for a few Track Days at Knockhill. |
A new year and I spent all of it so far at work! Before I went away I had been doing some modifications to the Riot, such as fitting the new engine cover, scuttle and flyscreen. It is in progress of being finished and also being written up so it'll all be posted when I get back sometime in April. It'll be a few weeks worth of work to get the modifications complete, and get the car ready for an MOT and I'll be back on the roads around mid May. Roll on summer, let's hope it was better than last year!! |
Went to one of Knockhill Race Circuit Speed Sunday Track Days, last Sunday. The whole thing was very enjoyable if not a little nerve racking for a first timer! A trackday section has been added to the menu bar on the left so full details are there. I have also been doing some modifications and they can be read about in the Post SVA section. On the way to Knockhill the engine cover came off and smashed to pieces on the motorway so a new one has been ordered as well as a fibreglass scuttle and a flyscreen. Which I hope to get fitted before the next trackday in November providing the weather is good. |

Got home a few weeks ago and have spent the time enjoying driving the R1ot. Took the car down to a rolling road today to get it set up properly. Now it's running with 112.2Bhp at the wheels I think a track day is on the cards next! |
Back for the weekend and took the opportunity to update the website. I wish the R1ot had been taxed and then I could taken it out for a spin, but probably wasn't worth it for 1 day. Still I'll be back in August for some serious road time and with some cash in the back pocket for some modifications....well it's never fully finished is it!! |
Still here and trying to get the car registered but the DVLA is making me jump through some more hoops first. Looks like I'll get the car registered about 24 hours before I have to go back to work... You may have noticed that the Forum has now gone. It was getting impossible to deal with all the spammers and people who joined specifically to advertise their crap so it had to go. Instead there is now a guest book which you can feel free to leave comments on, about the site. |
IT PASSED! The car went for it's SVA today and passed first time through, I now have my all important MAC certificate. All I need to do now is get it registered and MoT'd and it is on the road. Thanks to the people who emailed me and wished me luck for the SVA. |
SVA day tomorrow. I'll be able to see if something I built will be approved for use on the Queens Highways. Also in about a week the Forum will be removed and replaced by a Guest book instead. It's becoming a full time job keeping on top of it and dealing with all the scammers who insist in using it as advertising place for their dodgy wares. Thank you to all of you who have contributed to it and I'm sorry to see it go but I simply don't have the time to keep on top of it. |
IT RUNS!! After many weeks of persistence I finally made the engine start today. It turned out a faulty coil pack was the problem so with a replacement I now have a functioning engine. The end is in sight... |
Happy New Year to you all. It's a stormy start to the new year up here in Scotland, but hopefully it'll get better so I can get my R1OT SVA'd. Good luck to all the Sylva builders especially the R1OT fraternity, still building and finished. Drive safe and I'll soon be joining the league of finished cars. |
H E L L O!!! Right then I'm back. A couple of months leave ahead of me which should be plenty of time to get the R1OT finished, although they could be my famous last words. It'll be a few days before I will start back on the car as I have to unpack everything in the garage and also try to figure out what to do next. Still I should be back on it by Monday. Keep your eye on the build diary. |
Apologies for the lack of activity but I have just spent the last week in the south of France having a bit of a holiday. The sad news is that I've got to go back to work at the weekend so I won't be able to do anything to the car until at least mid October. So I've laid it up and progress will resume come the autumn, just in time to get it SVA'd for the coldest part of the year. Sob. Keep an eye on the site and normal progress will resume soon. Cheerio. |

I upgraded the forum and photo gallery to the latest versions but nothing is ever easy. Unfortunately if you had a small image with your user name, well, it's gone so you will have upload a new one, sorry. The photo gallery went completely Pete tong and I lost all the images so I've been busy uploading all the images and now it is completely up to date, it's also got a gucci new look so check it out. |
Welcome to R1ot.com. Over the past 6 months the forum is going well with more and more people joining it. On the build front it's been panels, panels, panels... But over the next few weeks I shall be getting to some of the oily bits as I'm planning to get the engine in and hopefully running. Completion is still a long way off but I'm itching to get starting on the mechanicals. Watch this space! |
Changed how the build diary loads up again. Now each month loads up into a new window, so images will take less time to reload. At the end of each diary month you can either go back to the index or to the next build month by clicking on the link at the bottom of each page. |
Added a HOW TO..Guide giving a basic overview on car electrical systems. I've tried to cover all the main points and I hope this will be use to some of you who are approaching the installation of electrical systems. If you want to see anything else in the guide let me know and I'll update it. |
Been gently plodding along with the build but should start to gear it up when I go on leave a week tomorrow. During the last few weeks been finding out all the parts that need modifying if you are building a R1ot SE. These are as follows. The front Ford Capri hubs. Also if you are using the MkIV Ford Fiesta pedals the brake pedal needs to be modified by Sylva. Finally the gear linkage also needs to be modified, more details on that on Monday when I get a copy of the sketch from Matt. |
I've started my build you can follow the progress in the Build Diary. I've still to finish off the garage and finally get all my stuff sorted out but that will happen in due course. My Christmas holiday is going to be spent sorting out my budget and what parts I will need, consumables, nuts and bolts, rivets etc. Finally a very merry Christmas and a happy New year to you all. |
Today, I picked up my kit!! In total it has been a 620mile round trip and I'm knackered, but I'm so pleased I've now got my R1ot, standing in the factory talking to Matt I was suddenly struck by the feeling of nervousness, mainly due to the fact I have never built a car before, then I remembered nor has anyone else and began to feel much better. I was hoping to put it in the nearly completed garage but due to the general incompetence of the builders I'm using I don't want to put the chassis in the garage just yet, knowing them they will use it as a saw trestle! So for the time being the chassis is sitting in my living room! All the other components are in the roof space in the garage out of harms way. |
Added some pictures in the Photo Gallery of the Drag Racing at Crail Airfield last weekend. If anybody wants a user account on the Gallery email me and I will enable one for you, photos can then be uploaded from your machine. Max size 1024x768 with a file size no more than 1024kb. |
I shall put this as simply as possible, THE KIT HAS BEEN ORDERED!!!! With a projected collection date of 10 December 2005. |
I was going to do this update last Saturday afternoon but just as I got started there was a power cut so I went down the pub instead! Now the good news, after nearly six months of planning and a considerable sum of money the GARAGE IS FINALLY UNDERWAY. I'm so pleased, the builders are reckoning on 6-7 weeks for the build so I'm looking at mid November for completion. You can follow the progress in the garage section. |
A quick update to let you all know I'm still here. I've now been back at work a week and it's good to be back after such a long leave period. Any way the Garage is starting 8 October it would have been last weekend but it has rained up here all last week and put the builders behind. On the R1OT front I was discussing with Jeremy the addition of the engine package to my kit order, but he has informed me that he has run out and can't get them at the same price he got them before. The prices his suppliers are quoting him now seem a little over the top and he reckons he must of got an unusually cheap batch of engines. He is going to ring me next week with a definitive answer. |
Finally I have got the planning permission to build my garage and the building warrant is on its way. Now I need to arrange the financial side and hopefully the build should be underway either the last week of September or the first week of October. It has been a long, long, long process but finally the build is in sight |
Just totally updated the website with a more modern look. Courtesy of Adobe Photoshop |
A Photo Gallery has also been added. Contact me for permission to post images of your Sylva Autokit on the Gallery for others to view. |
The public forum is now fully working and you are able to join up as members. If you have any problems creating an account contact RIOTSYS for help. |
A public access forum has been added that you can sign on, either as a guest or as a member and use the forum to discuss all matters concerning Sylva's kits and also any technical issues concerning the build and upkeep of your Sylva Car. Also included is an area allowing you to post details of meets or upcoming trackdays. If you need something for your car or would wish to sell something you can also do that on the forum. There are still some technical issues to resolve but the forum will be up and running with the next few days. |

I took my test drive in the RIOT SE in the pouring rain at Sylva's new factory in Ripley, Derbyshire. I have to say it was superb and it was everything that they describe on their website. Now I have to push the council to get my permits to build the garage. The desire to own my a RIOT SE is now greater than ever. Many thanks to Steve and Matt for a fantastic day. |
