About Me
Me Heed

Hi, my name is Richard. I live in Dunfermline in Fife. I used to live in Luton but moved up to Scotland about 3 years ago. I left school at 16 and did an apprenticeship for a company specialising in the field of microwave communication. I left there when my apprenticeship finished and went to work for a few companies also specialising in microwave communications but always felt that I wanted to do more. About 3 and half years ago I started to work for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary as a System Engineering Officer which means I'm responsible for the electrical and electronic systems on board our ships. As a bonus I get to travel all other the world, but also spend a lot of time sitting in home ports as well.

Earlier this year I decided to have a garage built on the side of my house and it got me thinking about what I wanted to put in it. I initially thought of buying something sporty that I could enjoy during my leave but was put off by the high prices of something quick. Then my mind went back to sitting in a Caterham at the NEC Motorshow when I was about 16 and thought why not. I have the facilities and the expertise not to mention the funds to build one. I started looking at Lotus 7 type cars but everyone has one and I wanted something different. I then stumbled on the Sylva Website and saw the R1OT and thought that's the one I liked the innovative design with the FWD engine fitted at the rear and the stripped down race look of the car. Simplicity in motion.

I started this website initially as a weblog detailing the future build of my RIOT but then thought that I could pool the resources of all the Sylva buiders into one place and to help future builders with the RIOT.COM forum.

When I'm not thinking about cars I also enjoy kite sports such as Kite buggying and fortunately live not that far from St Andrews beach which has to one of the best sites in Scotland for kite buggying.
